The six lines
Line 1 (bottom)
When one pulls up the grass, the sod comes with it. Each according to its kind. Enterprises bring good fortune.
Line 2
To bear with the uncultured with kindness, to cross the river with resolution, not to neglect what is distant, not to consider companions: thus one attains to walking in the middle.
Line 3
No plain that is not followed by a slope, no going that is not followed by a return. He who remains persevering in danger is without blame.
Line 4
He descends fluttering, without boasting of his wealth, together with his neighbor, sincere and without distrust.
Line 5
The Emperor I gives his daughter in marriage. This brings blessing and sublime good fortune.
Line 6 (top)
The rampart falls back into the moat. Do not use the army now. Make known your commands in your own city. Perseverance brings humiliation.
